The project demonstrated that subsidized community water transport services can be viable delivery mechanism that can provide improved access for marginalized and remote maritime and river-based communities so they can access health, education, and other government services. Improved maritime services can also increase production of market produce and goods, increase community earnings, and reduce poverty, particularly when linking franchise shipping service provision and infrastructure improvement in future project design so that synergistic effects can be expected to increase the number of passengers.
