The GEP methodology will still need to be continuously improved for existing pilot sites to see how GEP accounting could be improved. GEP might be instrumental in evaluating the performance of eco-compensation programs but more studies are needed to fine tune the indicator. The GEP methodology could be furthe expanded into the comprehensive eco_x005F_x0002_compensation demonstration areas (e.g., Chongqing).
