Developing Gross Ecosystem Product Accounting for Eco-Compensation

Many government-funded eco_x005F_x0002_compensation programs have been implemented in the PRC for the past two decades and vast experiences could be distilled and learned by other regions. Trans-provincial watershed eco_x005F_x0002_compensation schemes were installed first in Xin’an River Basin and then replicated in six other trans-provincial rivers in the PRC, which indicated the promising nature of an eco_x005F_x0002_compensation agreement between upstream and downstream governments based on joint monitoring of water quality and/or water quantity; the Xin’an River basin model has been replicated in other watersheds, such as Dong River between Jiangxi and Guandong Provinces and the Ting River between Fujian and Guandong Provinces. The Xin’an river model has been in existence since 2011 and is now proven to have strong potential to be replicated across other provinces andinternationally.
