Pakse Urban Environmental Improvement Project

Unforeseen events could significantly impact project implementation. In this project, these unforeseen events included (i) the upgrading of Pakse from district status to city status in 2018, which shifted the reporting line of project agencies from province level to city level and left the executing agency with a fraction of the resources needed; (ii) the flash floods of 2019, which washed away a large segment of the riverbank protection works under the project, resulting in funds being diverted for repairs and leaving a portion of the riverbank protection works not completed; and (iii)the COVID-19 pandemic.
