Due to target achieved ahead of schedule under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission, the government has set a new ambitious target of achieving 100 GW of solar power by 2022. Success in scaling up the solar power sub-sector is attributed to: (i) proven solar power development potential; (ii) strong institutional capacity and robust regulations; (iii) availability of supporting infrastructure such as solar park and its associated power transmission lines, which has been supported by ADB, to evacuate the power from solar power plants to invite developers from private sector at low risk; and (iv) strong local manufacturing capacity in solar power supply chains.
