South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation CrossBorder Power Trade Development

SASEC countries’ 13 stakeholders attended the technical study tour to NordPool in Norway to learn about the history, development, and current operation of the electricity market in Nordic countries. The tour helped the participants understand how the electricity market evolved in the Nordic countries from a mostly long-term bilateral contract-based market to a power exchange in Europe with high trading volume. The following is the recommended lesson: study tours are useful in developing knowledge, understanding, and capacity in new, complex systems; and increasing receptivity to future changes in national and cross-border relations.
