The COVID-19 pandemic response option (CPRO) is an effective model for channeling significant support to government to mitigate the impacts of a crisis.This program demonstrated how the CPRO provided a timely and effective means for channeling support to government in helping mitigate negative social, health, and economic impacts of a crisis. Underpinning the success of the CPRO were these key features: (i) it was a government-led program that was coherent, highly relevant, and efficient; (ii) effective coordination with various development partners was ensured even as the CPRO itself was delivered quickly at an unprecedented pace; and (iii) including a substantial number of gender targets helped ensure that the government delivered on its commitment to women’s empowerment during a period when women were disproportionately impacted by the crisis.
