Greater Mekong Subregion Highway Expansion Phase 2 Project

A monitoring and evaluation framework for regional and long-term impacts need to be established and applied to all regional projects related to corridor development. The project, a GMS highway expansion project, had regional impacts through international corridor development. Meanwhile, the project also had development impacts on local people through enhanced access to social and economic opportunities. However, the project did not design and implement any program to monitor and evaluate the impacts om corridor and regional developments, as well as on local socioeconomic development of the project areas. At project completion, it is difficult to link the project with the East-West Economic Corridor development. It was aksi not possible to assess the project’s long-term impacts in the project areas. Since there are many regional cooperation and economic corridor development projects, a monitoring and evaluation framework for regional and long-term impacts should be established and applied to all regional projects related to corridor development.
